Our weekly host, KiKi L’Italien, began the chat with a fiery question asking Helen, “What’s the biggest complaint you hear from clients about social media?”
Helen acknowledged that association members, “wear about 100 hats per day.”
Turns out the biggest complaint regarding social media is… not having the time to do it! Can you relate? We sure can!
Don, an #assnchat viewer, commented: “Aligning social media to the mission and making it sustainable…. easy to start, harder to keep up.” – which we believed was an excellent point!
Helen then laid the sole goal of using social media on the table by saying, “If you’re going to be doing social media… It needs to be aligning with whatever your goals are.”
So how do you make your social media reflect your goals? Ensure all of your social media platforms are working together in a cohesive way.
“There is so much you can do, if you get everyone on the same page,” KiKi said.
Circling back to time being the biggest factor for associations, Helen ensures you can save time if you figure out what social media platforms work best for your brand and goals.
“Choose a platform most worthwhile,” said Helen.
Don asked KiKi and Helen, “Is there a generational divide on who can handle this best inside an association? Or am I being ageist?”
Answer to his question? You can always teach an old dog new tricks.
Moving on to two social media tactics or tools Helen loves:
- Create compelling images (use Canva or PicMonkey)
KiKi encourages associations to, “Always move your strategy forward and towards your mission.”
While Helen confirms that organizations should, “Adjust your strategy, as needed.”
We signed off after an hour of intriguing discussion, and are eager to have Helen back to discuss some more social media magic!
What are you going to do to ensure you’re using social media to your advantage? We want to know. Tweet @assnchat using #assnchat to share your game plan or thoughts.
